I have just finished season 2 and O M G, it was awesome. It was also cancelled, but I’ll get to that.
Catch up on Season 1
As you can see, I wasn’t too impressed with season 1, and apparently not many people were, which is why they changed things up for season 2, unfortunately, many people had obviously not thought to give season 2 a try and therefore their numbers were still not as high as they needed it to be. So even after a fantastic season… Cancelled. But ended well!
Okay, so the story continues being focused on Bombshell (the Marilyn Monroe musical) with Karyn (Katherine McPhee) as Marilyn and Ivy (Megan Hilty) as part of the ensemble. Both of these women have extraordinary voices, they have grown so much since season 1 and really blew me away this season.
The story evolved as well, another play was in motion, Hit List, Karyn quit Bombshell and joined Hit List, therefore allowing Ivy to be Marilyn once again. This was exactly what the show needed, because it included new characters, Jimmy (Jeremy Jordan) and Kyle (Andy Mientus) (shown below). The new characters brought new love stories, more drama, and more importantly, it put Karyn and Ivy up against each other in a healthier way, competing for the Tony Award as best female lead in a musical.

LEFT: Kyle
RIGHT: Jimmy
As I mentioned, the drama in this series was so good, they had a few fantastic love triangles, many secrets and betrayals, but still extremely tasteful.
On to the music, I still didn’t know any of the songs this season, but this time around, I didn’t care, it sounded so good. I personally loved “Broadway Here I Come” by Katherine McPhee, “Let Me Be Your Star” by Megan Hilty, “The 20th Century Fox Mambo” by Megan Hilty and “Rewrite This Story” by Katherine McPhee and Jeremy Jordon.
The songs I loved even more were “Under Pressure”, performed in bits by the whole cast. It was fantastic. I also can’t stop attempting to sing “Big Finish” by Katherine McPhee and Megan Hilty. Those women have big voices. The song was perfect to end the show, it truly was a big finish to a wonderful season.
I loved that it had many original songs and personally, I wish I could go and see Bombshell on Broadway as if it were a real show.
Megan Hilty surprised me this season, her acting, singing and dancing were perfect. Initially she was set as sort of a villain, but in season 2, she was without a doubt, the character I rooted for the most.
Anyway, that’s it. It’s over. And here I am, saddened by the fact that I lost a decent musical series. Even though it ended, I still recommend you watch it, if you can get through season 1, I promise you’ll love season 2.
