Clearish Megan: Photoshop Fixer Uppers

One of the most controversial tools of the fashion trade, Photoshop provides us not only with super skinny, perfect models but also with awesome before and after shots.

A long time ago one of the Miistas interned at a small NYC clothing line and became BFFs with the graphic designer. As she often sat and chatted with him while he sliced off thighs and toned down arms, she couldn’t help but wonder — weren’t they skinny enough? Now we aren’t talking “normal” size people, we’re talking New York models, who are about as rail thin as rail thin gets. When she finally asked, the answer she got was surprisingly sensical. If the models don’t look absolutely perfect in the clothing, the “normal” consumer will think she has no hope of looking good. That one sentence managed to negate all of the body image this and ruining teenagers minds that — there’s an actual commercial need for Photoshopping the clothes horses. Now — the same does not however go for movie stars and various other famous folk who get the shit airbrushed out of them every time they grace a glossy. And that, my friends, is why Photoshop before and afters are the most fun ever. There’s no need for these people to look perfect, aside from the magazine editor saying that they must, so let us revel in what they really look like! Which honestly for the most part is still pretty awesome, but you get the point.
